【摘要】:1.1Thispracticeallowsfortheidentificationof90chemicalsthatmaybefoundinwaterorinsurfacelayersonwater.Thispracticeisbasedontheuseofroom-temperaturefluorescencespectratakenfromlistsdevelopedbytheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgencyandtheU.S.CoastGuard().Ref()istheprimarysourceforthesespectra.Thispracticeisalsobasedontheassumptionthatsuchchemicalsareeitherpresentinaqueoussolutionorareextractedfromwaterintoanappropriatesolvent.1.2Althoughmanyorganicchemicalscontainingaromaticrings,heterocyclicrings,orextendedconjugateddouble-bondsystemshaveappreciablequantumyieldsoffluorescence,thispracticeisdesignedonlyforthespecificcompoundslisted.Ifpresentincomplexmixtures,preseparationbyhigh-performanceliquidchromatography(HPLC),columnchromatography,orthin-layerchromatography(TLC)wouldprobablyberequired.1.3IfusedwithHPLC,thispracticecouldbeusedfortheidentificationoffluorescencespectrageneratedbyopticalmultichannelanalyzers(OMA)ordiode-arraydetectors.1.4Forsimplemixtures,orinthepresenceofothernonfluorescingchemicals,separatorytechniquesmightnotberequired.Theexcitationandemissionmaximumwavelengthslistedinthispracticecouldbeusedwithstandardfluorescencetechniques(Refs)toquantitatetheseninetychemicalsonceidentificationhadbeenestablished.Forsuchuses,generationofacalibrationcurve,todeterminethelinearrangeforuseoffluorescencequantitationwouldberequiredforeachchemical.Examinationofsolventblankstosubtractoreliminateanyfluorescencebackgroundwouldprobablyberequired.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
